OmniSTAN builds a Web-based Application for the National Street Naming and Property Numbering and Identification System across Ghana

The Challenge
Unplanned and unstructured settlements create major obstacles for governments, particularly in delivering essential services and ensuring fair distribution of resources to their citizens. Ghana, facing this very issue, implemented a permanent solution: a globally recognized property addressing system applicable to both residential and commercial buildings. A system that has satellite imagery integration for identifying and addressing every property in the country was needed for a comprehensive national database.
The Solution
OmniSTAN was developed by OMNI Strategies as a web application to simplify property identification and numbering. The application included all the regions and districts for administrative purposes (such as assigning users, reports, and analytics) and for displaying on various maps. OmniSTAN developed a unique approach to identifying properties, tagging them, and generating unique addresses for each one. As a result of this platform, every property in the country now has a unique house number, street name, digital address, and a QR code.
The Benefits
Over eight million properties in Ghana have been identified, validated, and provided with digital addresses. The implemented National Digital Property Address System offers several advantages. Besides helping the government to widen such digital services across the nation, it also empowers citizens to utilise these addresses to participate in the socioeconomic development of the nation. For example, accessing the national identity card, financial inclusion, and access to both government and private sector services by eligible citizens are all hinged on the provision of a digital address.
